BREAD FOR THE WORLD OFFERING OF LETTERS

Gathered as a community living in God’s love we serve all people, care for the earth, and embrace the work of the Holy Spirit. (Our mission)

Faith Lutheran Church will be recognized as a community of spiritual growth, a gateway for
environmental stewardship, a creator of partnerships, and an advocate for social justice and peace. (Our vision)

We have an opportunity to advocate for the re-authorization of the Farm Bill right now. This
measure must be authorized every 5 years to remain in effect. The Farm Bill authorizes the
SNAP program (formerly food stamps) that is significant in easing food insecurity in America. This year’s bill also addresses the use of sustainable farming methods and the elimination of food waste, which contributes to food insecurity and to climate change. If you want to know all of the details, check out the resources on the Bread for the World website: Bread for the World Farm Bill

On Sunday, April 30, we will have the opportunity to learn more about the Farm Bill AND we
will have the opportunity to raise our voices in support of the Farm Bill by writing to our
legislators. “Today hunger is directly or indirectly responsible for the deaths of at least 6 million people each year, half of them young children. (Silence Can Kill p. 3)” It is important to lift our voices in support of those who cannot advocate for themselves. Raise your voice with us-“…silence today is political. Far from avoiding politics, it counts as support for the continuation of hunger and the underlying inequalities that it reflects. (Silence Can Kill p. 5)”
