JANUARY MISSION OF THE MONTH: ST. BEN’S COMMUNITY MEAL
St Ben’s Community Meal has been supported by Faith for over 25 years. Our responsibilities have varied over the years, but currently, we pack bag lunches for distribution on the 4th Friday of even numbered months. In 2021, we started making 50 lunches. In 2024, we doubled our commitment to 100 lunches, thanks to a generous gift from our partners and friends at Trinity Lutheran Church. Then recently, because of high demand, St Ben’s asked whether Faith might be able to add a FIFTH FRIDAY. That would add four or five additional dates per year. After discussing the increased financial and volunteer needs, we decided to accept that challenge. We plan to add these additional dates in early 2026.
In addition to the Community Meal, St. Ben’s does much more for the needy people of Milwaukee. The Open Door Ministry at St. Ben’s offers showers, laundry, emergency clothing and hygiene items, social workers, community court and much more. During winter, the St. Ben’s Winter Warming Center is Milwaukee’s largest seasonal shelter with dignified overnight accommodations for 60 individuals.
To help us understand the full scope of St Ben’s ministries, we will be hosting an adult forum on Sunday, January 11 after worship. Two leaders from St Ben’s will join us to provide deeper insights and stories of St Ben’s and answer our questions. Please join us for this forum. AND PLEASE consider supporting Faith’s ministry at St Ben’s either financially or by volunteering with our bag lunch packing. Questions? See Joe Dorr.
